Our Miami Dolphins Are Relevent Once Again

With all of the Dolphins faults: a draft with barely one player contributing, an offensive line that was previously dysfunctional, running backs that seem clueless from time to time, and a player that threw the Dolphins players and management under the bus and created a turmoil the likes of which I have never seen in all my years of being a Dolphin fan. Through it all they have persevered.

Even though Joe Philbin is about as exciting as watching grass grow, he has this team playing at its best when it counts most. I have no idea how he has done that, nor do I care. I just know that Philbin has his players thinking they can beat anyone they play. If the Patriots come here unprepared they are going to have their asses handed to them (I can't believe I said that!), but that is the feeling that I have at this time.

The Dolphins are bringing excitement back into pro football for all Dolphin fans. The Miami Dolphins are back from the dead. The weekends don't come fast enough. Sunday mornings seems to last a week. For God's sake, stop all the talk and move the kickoff up to 10:00 am.

So tell me Shouters are YOU on board?

10:00 am starts !!!! :))

I'm a bit of a Liberal, but I'm not THAT Liberal Pat. :)) LALA land would drive me nuts.
Not all of Ca is LALA land, Coastal Northern CA is AWESOME !!

I loved the 10 am games cuz I didn't have to get out of bed to watch'em !!!

Watched the fake spike game from bed with a nasty hangover !!!!
Amen KV! Actually most of Northern CA is pretty awesome though I prefer the Coastal areas. I remember being 4 and standing up for the Fins to the mountain of man Jeff Stover in the Chico Mall after Niners won the Superbowl in early 84 who was showing off his ring..Probably the most LaLa thing I've ever done but then again I was 4.
LOL Aaron : ))) !! Yea, I miss the F outta Ca !! We were doomed from the get go in that SB ( Jan 85 ), with it being at Stanford Stadium which at the time was just across the highway from where the 9ers practiced, SF had a huge home-field advantage !!!
Yeah they did in Palo Alto of all places I think that' s part of my long hatred of all things Stanford well should the Fins and Niners play the big one again in the SF Bay area they'll be playing in Santa Clara in a stadium (this their last year at candlestick)that from last I heard they'll be sharing with the Raiders not sure how that is gone workout.
I only saw a small bit of Northern CA while going to and from 'Nam from Travis AFB but in 202 I was in SLO and that is a beautiful area:))
While being too jilted from past experience with this team to share your unbridled enthusiasm, I do get a good sense from watching the body language of this team in general. There were times in the recent past where a sense of resignation was prevalent when the tide changed during a game. One of Ryan Tannehill's greatest assets is his composure no matter what the situation is. He doesn't seem to get phased by anything, they could be winning by 30 points (well I guess we don't know that for certain LOL) or losing by 30 and he always seems the same... He may be able to learn to throw a more accurate deep ball, but that composure is something you can't teach. He's already married to a hottie and he came from a semi-wealthy family, so fame and riches do not affect him. It will be interesting to watch him mature as a QB.

Tannehill is coming along Patrick. Little by little he is improving. His real QB rating is improving, he has more TDs and less interceptions so far. He has a chance to reach 4000 yards passing which hasn't been done since Marino last did that.

You didn't say this in your reply, but I feel that you think this team will go as far as Tannehill can take them. If so, then I agree with that. The Dolphins ride on Tannehill shoulders. Isn't that the way it is in today's NFL ?

I think RT's potential is the brightest light that we've had to look forward to in quite some time.
Are you IN or OUT? I'm IN baby!!! Yes, our team is relevant again and I hope that they continue to bloom and grow (from the Sound of Music) and set the Division, Conference and League on fire. Sure we need some pieces but so does everyone else. We have the attitude to overcome adversity (Martin and Inco and maybe Pouncey) and land on our feet. That is mental toughness that goes a very long way towards success. GO TEAM!!!!!!!!

I'm definitely on board with your thinking, Riverdog. You get a sense that Miami is developing enough fire power offensively, to play with just about anyone right now. And the defense is starting to gel under Coyle's schemes too. (Especially the line backers that have had trouble tackling runners in open space).

And considering we were either leading or staying close to teams starting the third quarter in 5 of the 6 losses we had and how much we lost those games by, it does appear we are capable of competing. Even the Saints game was still winnable until the turn over bug hit us in the third quarter. We are finishing games better and actually scoring in the fourth quarter which would have made the difference in some of those earlier contests.

And that is another thing you guys pointed out. The TD's to INT's ratio. The last time we had a better TD to INT figure was when Pennington was our QB in 2008. And all those sack/fumbles of Tannehill that took place earlier in the year. You haven't seen any of those lately, either.

I believe Miami is starting to peak at the right time for the playoffs. I agree with Patrick that Ryan's accuracy on the deep pass can use some improvement. Especially with Wallace, but that will come with opportunities. Tannehill hasn't had much trouble hitting Hartline or Clay in stride, though. As a matter of fact, Miami currently has more pass completions of 40+ yards than New England. (10 to 8, respectively).

Imagine what he can do when the protection finally stabilizes and improves in critical situations. (With 47 sacks, it is a wonder he isn't too banged up to play at this point). He will only get better with time and has still hit the top 10 QB's list, (#10) despite his offensive line. If he averages 230 over the next 3 games he will reach the 4,000 yard mark. Ryan is currently averaging 255 passing yards per game, and there is nothing that looks like it's going to get in the way with his next three opponents. The Patriots are ranked 16th against the pass. (We are 13th now).

And that is the only thing I like about the west coast, Dog. All the (EST) 1:00 PM games are at 10:00 AM, here. Don't know if I'd like having to get up at 7:00 AM to watch them play. But I know how you feel. I anxiously await each game, too.

Philbin seems a little stiff and reserved for a HC, though he does possess a sense of humor. Have you guys heard some of his after game locker room speeches? I'm hoping he loosens up more in time.

Go Dolphins!
Turns out that maybe more folks are onboard with Ireland, TanneThrill and the Dolphins than is openly displayed here at our quaint little hideout !!

I think the OL is better now than it has been all year. I do not miss Incognito or Martin one bit. I hope we kick ass Sunday.
Joe Philbin is about as exciting as watching grass grow I really enjoyed this Dog All though I still have doubts about him I have to say that he has done a great job handling the locker room problems and keeping the team focused. I do still think there are some coaching issues to be addressed. I will say this if Rossass keeps Ireland and lets Philbin go I might just have to hang up my colors(not really)

Usually if the GM goes so does the HC. Seldom is it the other way around, although there are exceptions. The Jets released the GM and kept Rex Ryan. So it can happen.

When the Dolphins were searching for a new HC. I remember that Ireland and Ross liked different candidates. I believe that Philbin was liked by Ross more than by Ireland. Although I am unable to remember if that is correct.

Right you are dog. However, I would love to see the fins use Dion Jordan at tight end. Miami can use all the help they can on offense for getting short first downs and into the end zone. But wallace is way overrated. And I like what the fins did to their field. Its about time. Maybe this team will feel more like contenders than protenders. Come on dolphins: put the nail in the box this time.

Hi everyone - not sure how to inform the Dolphin Shout group other than seeing this post that was done by Riverdog. My brother Gary (Riverdog) passed away this evening. The only details I know is that his wife said he was not feeling well around 4pm today and looked unresponsive. Then he was coughing up blood. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, but passed away around 8 or 8:30pm (I think).

I no longer will have my brother to talk too about the Dolphins. We talked almost daily and I will miss it greatly. I no longer will have the ability to disagree with what he thought the Dolphins needed to do. No longer will have him my fantasy football league.

RIP Riverdog!
