Miami Dolphins Release Kory Sheets and Sign Larry Johnson

The Miami Dolphins have released 26 year old RB Kory Sheets and signed 31 year old Larry Johnson to replace him, per the Miami Herald.

This is disappointing news for a lot of us fans who thought highly of Sheets, but I have to say that I agree with the move after what I've heard about Sheets recently. From what I can tell he has lost a step and isn't as shifty since he was out for the season last year with a torn achilles tendon. You can't help but feel bad for the kid because he had a lot of potential that he may never be able to reach because of an injury.

I don't believe that the signing of Larry Johnson will have much effect on the Dolphins offense. He may get a few touchdowns (or just carries) on the goal line, but don't expect anything more from him. I still think that Lousaka Polite (arguably the best fullback in the NFL) will be the main short yardage runner in Miami.

There was talk about the Dolphins possibly signing Clinton Portis after releasing Sheets, but they ultimately decided to bring Johnson in instead.

All in all, I like this move. Bring in Johnson, who has been very successful before, and let him battle for a better spot in the lineup. If he doesn't end up doing well, then who cares? It's not like Miami was relying on him anyways.

We'll see what happens. Thanks for stopping by, and let me know what you think.

Dolphin "Pod" rescue attempt of Chad Henne.. Part Two: Tailbacks!!

Hey Fellow Fin-fo-addicts, hope this comes to you when feeling all bright-eyed and BUSHY-TAILED.. Speaking of tail, that's about the only view many opponents will have (from on their butts and/or from behind) when attempting to face-up against
Reggie,Reggie,Reggie,Daniel,Daniel,Kory,Kory!!

They say that "a bird in hand is worth two in the Bush"!!
In this case, I think it goes a flock of birds on the offensive-line are worth "two in a Bush"!!

From my birds-eye view from within my mind, I'm envisioning a healthy Reggie Bush being the starter for our Miami Dolphins!! Now that's not suggesting that he'll always get the bulk of the carries from the tailback position, just that he'll start at tail-back, and likely get between fifteen to twenty carries!! I believe that 2011's second round draft pick Daniel Thomas will pretty-much match the repetitions/carries of Reggie Bush at tailback, while Bush will gather total yards in manning other positions as well (flanker, receiver, wildcat back, etc., etc..)

Here's where I see the two in a Bush theory (if Reggie Bush and the OLine can stay healthy)!! I see no reason why Reggie Bush can't single-handedly come within a few hundred yards of the production of both Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams combined 1790 total yards of offense and only 8 Touchdowns in 2010!!

I can also easily envision Daniel Thomas equaling the 2010 production of one or the other in Ricky or Ronnie (they were basically the same production-wise).. Ronnie had 734 rushing with 242 receiving yards and 5 TD.. Ricky had 673 rushing to go along with 141 receiving yards and 3 TD.. After occasionally being able to watch Thomas play on television over the last two years for Kansas State, thoroughly evaluating him through the draft process, and during his few Dolphin moments it's quite evident to this hawk (me) that he doesn't possess the bad hesitation habits that Cam Cameron instilled in Ronnie while trying to turn him into a much slower LaDanian Tomlinson!! I believe that Thomas is already every bit the tailback that Ronnie ever was, and that not being the feature back and/or being the focal-point of opponent's game-planning should keep him fresh, while opening lanes that Ronnie never hit quite quick enough!! He, in turn, is highly capable of doing anything else that Brown was able to do if'ya know what I mean!!

No, no, don't say-it, it'll have a small paragraph in "part three"!!

Speaking of part three.. As the three we then have the return from injury of 26 year old Kory Sheets who's a burner that can score from anywhere on the field, and likely would have taken some of Ronnie's 2010 reps while running circles around 2010's number three in Patrick Cobbs (another favorite, but c'monn mannn)!! Oh yeah, we currently still have Lex Hilliard, and we all know who Lex is, should he be needed!!

All in all, 2010's entire running back unit (fullbacks included) accumulated 2,007 total yards rushing/receiving, and a mere eleven Touchdowns!!

I personally have strong confidence in 2011's tail-back unit surpassing 2010's unit by four to five hundred yards while producing quite a few more touchdowns in the process!!

Now, don't misunderstand me. I have great appreciation and respect for both Ronnie and Ricky!! It's just that both were far beyond their prime, extremely predictable, bored, and easy for the opposition to gameplan against, whereas this new stable is full of prime, young, unpredictably difficult to corral wild stallions in search of a Mare and/or Pigskin in the heat!!

AGAIN, this is all contentious to the flock of birds on the power line staying energized/healthy while transferring that cohesive electricity to the ground-game resulting in a "Burning Bush,"and the condemnation of Chad Henne's demons!!

Thank you for the open-mindedness in reading, and for what ever opinions you'd like to add!!

GO M I A M I D O L P H I N S !!!

Miami Dolphins RB Kory Sheets Answers Your Questions

A while ago I asked you guys to give me some questions to ask Kory Sheets, a Miami Dolphins running back who has the potential to be something special in the NFL.

Well, I have finished asking him all of the questions, and I have his answers here for you now. I hope you guys enjoy:

Are you happy with the way Miami is revamping their offensive line?
"Yes, they are adding more depth and youth to it, and that will allow us to do more things on the field."
Are there any specific players that you would want the Dolphins to add to the line?
"No, I am happy with everyone that's on our roster."
Have you lost any speed from last year due to the injury?
"From what I can tell not at all. Just need to get the trust back into it and I'll be as good as new."
How does a player work to increase their quickness or burst?
"I've done a lot of calf work and jumping at different heights and speeds."
Have you had any opportunity to meet with new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll? What is your impression of him and the type of offense he plans on installing?
"Yes, I've met him one time briefly, don't really have any impressions yet, but as soon as the lockout is over I'm sure I'll get one."
Have you had a chance to work out with the rest of the Dolphins led by Chad Henne? If so, do you like what they are doing and how they are doing it?
"Yes, that's where I'm working out as we just lift and run as a team."
Are you working on plays and the offense or are you just lifting and running?
"Just running and lifting now."
Do you expect to be returning kicks this year?
"I'm sure I'll take some kicks back, but my main focus will be to earn the starting job at HB if Ronnie doesn't come back."
What do you think of the wildcat?
"It's a fun set that makes the defense play on their heels.
What are the pros and cons of hiking directly to the RB, now that everyone seems to be on to it?
"Pros are you have a guy catching the ball that can just take off right away without having to have it be handed off. Cons are if there is a passing play the ball may not be put in the right spot all the time."

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you guys enjoyed the interview. I am going to ask him some more questions about the player workouts, because it concerns me a little that he said that they aren't working on plays or the offense right now.

DeAngelo Williams Expresses Desire To Play For The Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins and RB DeAngelo Williams may be coming together after all according to a report by Pro Football Talk.

During an interview on WQAM in Miami, Williams had this to say about Miami:
"This is a place I'd like to live. I hope I'm at the top of their list and they come after me."
Seeing this quote is really exciting for me because Williams is basically asking the Dolphins to sign him.

This is helpful because Miami won't have to consider drafting Mark Ingram anymore. They can focus on drafting other positions instead with the knowledge that they will be able to sign Williams during free agency.

Williams looked to be slowing down a little bit last year. He was under five yards per carry for the first time since 2006, and he only played six games due to injury.

Even with all of that, I am not concerned about how he would be in Miami. He is still lightning fast and has had a lot of time to let his body recover. If Miami uses the draft to improve their offensive line he could easily end up being a Top 10 NFL running back.

Williams would compliment Ronnie Brown well if Brown ended up staying, or he could work well with backs like Lex Hilliard and Kory Sheets. Hilliard and Sheets may not be very well known, but that doesn't make them any less talented. I believe at least one of them would be capable of splitting carries with Williams.

Like I always say, we will see what happens. Thank you guys for reading, and let me know your thoughts on Williams possibly coming to play for the Dolphins.

Miami Dolphin Injuries Are Piling Up: Kory Sheets Is Out For The Season

Just a day after the Miami Dolphins lost LB A.J. Edds, they also lost RB Kory Sheets.

While Sheets was a backup, I believe that he had a lot of potential. Some people disagree with me on that, but I really did think that he could have done pretty well this year.

Oh well, we will have to wait another year to see how he does, but that is if Miami even decides to keep him. He was also a contender for the kick return position, so who knows how he could have done with that.

The injury was a torn achilles tendon and he will be out for the season. It is a shame to see to players out for the season in back-to-back days of training camp. Let's hope Miami can stay relatively injury free for the rest of the year.

How about you? Do you think the Miami Dolphins will keep Kory Sheets for next year?

Will Kory Sheets Ever Be A Top Running Back For The Miami Dolphins?

The Sun Sentinel just did an article about how Kory Sheets wants to prove that he has more than just speed. He wants to prove he is "an every down back".

I'm wondering: Will he ever be an every down back for the Miami Dolphins.

I think we all can agree his speed is his strength. He is probably the fastest player on the team. In order for him to be more than just an average running back with speed, he has to be able to do more.

He was a great running back in college, but things will be a lot harder for him. In college he was able to run a lot faster than his opponents, where in the NFL his opponents are able to keep up with him more.

One thing that Tony Sparano wants to see more from Sheets is pass blocking. A running back who is good at pass blocking is invaluable because he can be the difference between a sack and a first down.

I am confident that Sheets has a good shot at making the roster, though, because he can be a great kick returner. One thing makes all of the difference for a kick returner: speed. You don't have to be good at your position to be a kick returner as long as you are fast.

Just ask Ted Ginn Jr.

We will see what happens, but I have a feeling it will take Sheets a few years to develop into an every down back like he wants. He may not ever develop into one, we just can't tell yet.

Post a comment below on whether you think Sheets will ever become a top back in Miami. I am interested to know what other Dolphins fans think.

Calling Miami Dolphins Fans, I Need Your Help!

Everyone hates the offseason in the NFL.

It doesn't matter who you root for, you just want the cold weather to hurry up and come back so you can watch some football.

And just like fans don't enjoy the offseason, neither to journalists and blog writers like me.

So I am asking everyone who reads this, please email me a question about the Miami Dolphins.

It can be anything that has to do with the Dolphins. I will post your question with an answer on my blog.

When you email, give me a format something like this:

Name:
Location:
Question:

It doesn't have to be exactly like that, because I understand I shouldn't be picky. But as long as you ask me a question I am happy.

Email your Miami Dolphins questions to paul@dolphinshout.com, and I may even post your question as soon as tomorrow depending on whether anything new comes out of Miami.

Now, since I always try to add some Dolphin talk to as many of my posts as possible, here is something for you guys to think about:

Should Miami keep Patrick Cobbs?

He is coming off of a season-ending knee surgery last year, and Miami already has a lot of running backs on the roster.

What made me think about it was an article I read saying his knee was getting a lot better.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about the risk of Cobbs being injured. I'm not sure if he gets injured a lot or not, but I do know that he obviously can't be a player who never has to worry about injuries simply because he had a season ending injury.

But, do the Dolphins even need to worry about him?

I don't think so because along with Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, Miami has Lex Hilliard and Kory Sheets. Hilliard was able to be successful when he ran the ball last season, and Sheets has a lot of potential. Do we need to worry about holding on to Cobbs when we have good backups like Sheets and Hilliard?

Let me know what you guys think about Cobbs, and don't forget to email me your questions here:

5 Miami Dolphins Offensive Players Primed For A Breakout In 2010

All Dolphins fans are hoping for a breakout season this year. They want a team that can win this season.

Some fans are impatient and want to see Miami go far next season, while other fans are more patient and are willing to wait for Miami to be a strong post-season contender.

Whether you are a patient or impatient fan, you still want success, and if they want to be successful they will need certain players to have a breakout year this season. Here is a list of five offensive players on the Dolphins that are primed for a breakout this year.

1. Chad Henne, QB

Henne is probably the most talked about Dolphin when it comes to a breakout season. Chad Henne has extremely high expectations from his fans, and for good reason. Henne now has a star receiver named Brandon Marshall who will help him a lot more than what Henne had last year.

He is also more experienced and will be able to work with his team this offseason during training camp. He wasn't able to during training camp last year because he wasn't the starting quarterback, but he will be able to next year and, in doing so, become more of a leader.

Henne will be great this year, and the biggest reason is Marshall, but his success will also be thanks to his experience, chemistry with the team, and his leadership.

2. Brian Hartline, WR

The addition of WR Brandon Marshall helps a lot of the offense, and Hartline is evidence of that.

Brandon Marshall is a huge playmaker, and will require double teams a lot this season. When Marshall is being double covered, Hartline will be open to catch the ball himself. That is the case for all of Miami's receivers, but Hartline is a receiver who will be able to make a big play.

Last year Hartline lead the Dolphins with more 20+ and 40+ yard receptions than any other receiver. The big thing is that he got less receptions than any other receiver who received considerable minutes last year. Hartline has big play potential, and Marshall will help bring the potential out in him.

3. Kory Sheets, RB

Kory Sheets has a chance to do well this year. He is a very fast runner, and he may be the third string back for Miami. His speed would be great for the Dolphins running game. He is also very good at scoring when the offense is near the goal line, according to his combine scouting profile. His ability to score might be what will help him break out next year. If Miami needs somebody to score when they are near the goal line, Sheets might be the back they hand it to.

Ricky Williams is getting old, and Ronnie Brown isn't always reliable because of injuries, so the Dolphins will probably look for another running back. That is where Sheets may come in.

He is also supposed to be a pretty good kick returner, as well. So, he has an even better chance of breaking out this season.

4. Anthony Fasano, TE

Fasano had a pretty bad year last season. Credit his bad performance to what you want, but he still didn't do very well.

I believe Fasano is in position to break out this year. He has receivers and running backs around him that will take the focus of the defense away from him. Top that with the fact that defenses may not take him seriously this season, and you could be looking at a very good season for him.

I am not saying whether he will have it or not, but he is definitely primed for one. Hopefully, he will be an important part of Miami's offense next year and will have a breakout.

5. Davone Bess, WR

I didn't want to include another receiver, but Bess is an important player. He will definitely have a breakout season. He is a great receiver who can catch practically anything thrown at him. As defenses focus on Brandon Marshall, and then hopefully Brian Hartline, Bess will be more open than ever.

Bess is primed for a breakout. Last season he had 76 receptions for 758 yards, and that was with the Dolphins not even throwing the ball a lot. This year they will throw a lot more, and Bess could possibly have 100 receptions and 1000 receiving yards.

Statistics like that are reasons why Bess will have such a good year.

What do you guys think? Let me know with your comments.
