Last year I asked a very important question. I asked all of you what you planed on eating and where did you intend to watch the Super Bowl?
I figured that I would change it up this year. I want to know what you plan on drinking and what type of TV will you be watching the game on? (If you would like to add what you plan on eating please feel free to do so)
I will tell you what our plan is. My wife and I usually watch the game at home. We don't like going out on the road if we think there might be too many crazies driving home after a night of drinking. I mean, how many inebriated drivers could be on the road after a Super Bowl when every bar and grill will have the game on and spirits flowing? Surely there couldn't be that many, right? Nonetheless, I think we will stay home.
We don't have a big flat screen TV, so our television isn't anything special. I usually make teriyaki chicken wings, but my wife wants KFC so she will probably win out.
Our choice of drink will be...*drum roll please*...diet coke. We don't have any beer in the house. No no no. We are not teetotalers. We do have plenty of spirits in the house. There is plenty of rum, whiskey, and wine. Plenty enough to get hosed on. Just no beer. No one here likes beer unless it is free, and then we have no problem with it. I would say the chances of us having a drink on Super Bowl Sunday are slim to none, with a slight advantage going to "none".
So, as you can see it will be pretty boring around here. Please don't let that stop you. Tell us what your choice of drink will be. I'm going to take the liberty of guessing what the other writers are going to have. To start out I have no idea what Paul and Shawn could be drinking. Shawn has family that is still at home I think, so my guess is he will do the same as I and stay away from the free flowing spirits. Paul I feel will do the same thing. So that leaves Patrick, Kenny, and Todd (Buckeye).
Patrick will be having Scotch with a home smoked pork shoulder. Maybe I should go over to his house! Kenny, I feel, will be having beer. Probably Bud Light and a hamburger. After all, he must watch his figure. Buckeye will be drinking some beer that JP will need to ship to him from Belgium or Russia. He will just skip the food. When you ship in a foreign beer you don't have any money left for food.
Before everyone gets mad at me please remember this is all in jest. Whatever you do to see the game, just remember to stay safe where ever and doing whatever you do. We need every one of you to be here to keep Dolphin Shout as the best site on the net.

The Only Good The Enhanced Schedule Will Do Is Protect The 1972 Miami Dolphins
The NFL's proposed enhanced schedule does not have any real benefits that make it worth going through with.
It just adds too much danger and takes away too much of the excitement of an individual game. There is only one benefits that Miami Dolphins fans will have from this:
The perfect season.
The 1972 Miami Dolphins were, and still are, the only undefeated team ever in the history of the NFL. Other teams have come close, but none have ever been able to.
The enhanced schedule will only make it harder for a team to have a perfect season because they will have to play two additional games. That is two more chances for another team to beat them. If the enhanced schedule proposition is accepted and put into play, then it is a very good possibility that there will never be another NFL team to have zero losses in an entire season.
Think about it this way: If the New England Patriots had to play in 18 regular season games during their almost perfect season, then they would have just been starting the playoffs by the time the Super Bowl actually came around. They would have had to just start worrying about playing three of the top teams in the NFL during the playoffs instead of just one team in the Super Bowl.
I know that this isn't a good reason for the enhanced schedule, and I agree. Sure, records are great and are something that should be treasured, but they still aren't worth risking injuries.
So, while Mercury Morris and Larry Csonka may be in favor of this enhanced schedule, you still should not be. I know you probably love the entertainment that 16 games provides and want more, but it is not worth risking players health even more.

What is your opinion on the Super Bowl being moved to colder weather?
So, the NFL has voted and a Super Bowl will now be held in New York.
I want to know what everyone thinks about that. I don't like the idea. I think the two best teams in the NFL should win on pure talent, and that might not happen if bad weather interferes.
Sure, it might make some of the games more interesting, but I don't think it will really be a showcase of the best in the NFL. It will be more of a showcase of who is tougher. Some people may like that, but when I watch the Super Bowl I want to see the best of the best playing at their best.
I don't know if a cold-weather Super Bowl will be able to do that.

Miami Dolphins Long Term, or New York Jets Short Term? You Decide
I figured I should throw this one out there.
I have heard a lot about the Jets going for the Super Bowl this year. They have signed a lot of veterans that they will hope will make an immediate impact.
So, I was thinking about the state of the Miami Dolphins organization and comparing it to the New York Jets organization.
Basically, you can say the Jets are going for the short-term success and the Dolphins are going for the long-term success.
With New York signing the veterans they have so far, they have basically set their sights at the Super Bowl and anything less for them will be a disappointment.
While it would be exciting for Jets fans because they can look forward to Super Bowl chances immediately, I would rather be on Miami's wagon.
The Miami Dolphins have been, basically, building the foundations for a successful franchise for years to come. A franchise that will be playoff contenders season after season. Sure, they have a shot at winning the Super Bowl next year, but the important thing is that they will have a strong shot at winning the big game every year.
So, it comes down to short-term or long-term?
Which would you rather?
I would much rather being a contender for years to come in the NFL instead of having a shot for one or two years.
And, because the Miami Dolphins are building such a strong foundation here is a prediction from me:
The Miami Dolphins WILL win a Super Bowl within the next five seasons.

What I Believe: The Miami Dolphins Chances Next Year

Now that the draft buzz is basically over, I figured why not move on to something else to talk about. I know it may be a little early to talk about, but I can't help myself. So, here is a little bit of a preview for the Miami Dolphins.
The Dolphins have improved their offense tremendously by just making one crucial move, which was gaining WR Brandon Marshall. He completely transforms the Dolphins and turns them from just a running team to a running and passing team. Marshall will help Chad Henne and he will help the Dolphin running backs because defenses will have to focus more on Marshall and less on the run game like they were able to do last year.
Miami had a great offensive line last year, and it will only get better because of the addition of guard Richie Incognito. The line was great at blocking last year, and they will now be even better because of Incognito.
Miami has focused the majority of their efforts on defense this offseason. Every single pick in the draft except for one was used on defensive players, so that was obviously where they needed to improve the most. A lot of the pocus has been on improving the front seven on defense, and it has gotten better. The more notable additions by Miami were adding linebacker Karlos Dansby from Arizona and drafting defensive end Jared Odrick. Our front seven is obviously better and ready for whatever opposing offenses can throw at it.
My concern is the Dolphins secondary. Miami didn't draft a safety until the fifth round in the NFL draft, and they haven't added any notable talent at safety other than the draft. I believe that was a mistake because the Dolphins got beat way too many times last season, and a big reason for that was our safety play. We have great young talent at cornerback with Sean Smith and Vontae Davis, but not at safety. I think Miami is putting too much confidence in our safeties and is trusting them too much. I haven't seen much of our young safeties, but from what I have seen I believe we could use some help
So, now for the main reason I wrote this article: Miami's Chances. I believe that the Dolphins have a great chance to make the playoffs next year. They have a bunch of scoring machines on offense now. Of that I have no doubt. Our run defense will be really good, too. Like I mentioned above, my biggest concern is the Dolphins safeties. So, until our safeties can get better or we get new ones I don't think Miami can make a deep push into the playoffs.
Here's to an improved secondary.

Miami Dolphins Safety Situation: Should they Bring in New Players?
The Miami Dolphins weakest point last year was definitely their pass defense. If you ask any Miami fan who payed attention to the Dolphins last year, they will probably say something similar to that.
So, it was obvious that during the off-season Miami had to make some changes and improve their secondary. What I'm wondering is: have the Dolphins done enough to be successful against the top passing defenses in the NFL? I honestly don't think they have.
Safety is where Miami needs the most help. The Miami Dolphins only drafted one safety in the 2010 NFL Draft, and that was Reshad Jones in the fifth round. It may be better than nothing, but it still isn't much.
I think that the Dolphins should be searching for a new safety in the free agent market. One of those free agent safeties is veteran Pro Bowl FS Darren Sharper who was on the New Orleans Saints last year. I know his contract is pretty expensive (not sure the exact figures), but he would definitely be an improvement over what we have right now. He would also be able to teach the younger safeties so they can step in when he retires.
From what I can tell, there are not any other good safeties available in the free agent market that would be worth the Dolphins signing. So, I really hope that they try and go for Sharper.

I Know I’m Late, but Miami Dolphins WR Brandon Marshall Is Perfect for the Dolphins
I know that the Miami Dolphins trading two second round draft picks to the Denver Broncos is old news by now, but I didn’t have my blog when they made the move so I couldn’t write about it then.
Well, I have my blog now so I figured I would write about one of my favorite moves in all of the years I have followed the Dolphins.
This was the best move made by any team in the NFL this offseason. Period. Miami needed a big time playmaking receiver, and that is what they got. Brandon Marshall is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. Now, Miami will have an extremely potent offense, with an already excellent running game and a now excellent passing game.
Brandon Marshall is a receiver that can make the big play any time it is needed, and he is a very big target for Chad Henne. Miami already had a bunch of Wes Welker-type possession receivers. All they needed was a big-time receiver.
But, you have probably already read all of the stuff I have mentioned above. Now, here’s something you probably didn’t think about:

That’s right, Chad Henne is going to benefit tremendously from the addition of Brandon Marshall. Henne had a pretty good season last year, and he didn’t even have a big time wide receiver. The only player that we had that had big time potential couldn’t catch a football to save his life. All of our other receivers have incredible catching ability, but they are just possession receivers.
I am willing to bet that Chad Henne has a shot at doing well enough to make the Pro Bowl because of Brandon Marshall. He has the arm, and now he has the right tools(receivers) to work with.
