Some terrible news has just come across the wire regarding Miami Dolphins starting quarterback David Garrard. According to multiple reports, David Garrard is scheduled to have arthroscopic knee surgery and won't play in tonight's preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
From what I can tell the injury is not something that happened in practice. It is a result of wear and tear over time. Arthroscopic knee surgeries generally take 2 to 4 weeks before the knee has fully recovered.
This is a serious blow to the Miami Dolphins. Garrard was the clear favorite to start at quarterback, and he was looking right at home in Miami's offense. Now, he won't return until right about when the season starts.
Miami is left with Matt Moore and Ryan Tannehill now with a two quarterback battle. It is possible that Garrard still starts Week 1, but we just don't know what will happen with this surgery.
For me personally, this is incredibly frustrating. I've heard multiple beat writers say that our offense looked better this year than it had in a long time. Now we're just taking a step back for no reason other than injuries. It's not like we're going to be beaten because we weren't prepared.
