Recap: Ryan Tannehill's First Miami Dolphin Start

The Miami Dolphins first round draft pick Ryan Tannehill started his first of likely 200-plus games for the Miami Dolphins on Friday night at the Carolina Panthers.

While it wasn't the stellar performance we've all become accustomed to from a 24 year old rookie QB in his first ever NFL start, he didn't get a lot of help from his teammates either.

He made some mistake's of his own. One was an audible from a run to pass on 2nd down with two yards to go on his initial 3 and out series where he had two batted down incompletions due to being antsy. His 2nd series also went 3 and out with TE Anthony Fasano dropping a pass that would have resulted in 6-plus yards on 1st and 10.

On number 17's third series he was spectacular in completing 7 of 11 passes with at least two incompletions being drops and four completions of 10 yards or more, including a 20 yarder to his Texas A&M teammate Jeff Fuller during a 15 play, 76 yard, 6 and a half minute drive that ended in a one yard Daniel Thomas TOUCHDOWN!

His next series went 3 and out with a 6 yard sack on 1st down. The next opportunity went 3 and out with a Roberto Wallace drop on 1st down and a 5 yard sack on 2nd. Tannehill's final series with 53 seconds remaining in the half went 6 and out with an initial 1st down sack for a 5 yard loss, followed by two completions which were followed by a Marlon Moore drop and an incompletion of some sort to BJ Cunningham. All 3 of the sacks that Tannehill suffered took place after the majority of the usual starting OL took a seat with John Jerry, and Lydon Murtha being solely responsible for two smashings of the poised QB.

He sprinkled in numerous nice tosses along the way, but drops, sacks, and penalties stalled many a series while he himself didn't commit any plays of blatant stupidity! Meanwhile, Bush, Fasano, Moore, Wallace, and Gates among others all had at least one blatant drop from Tannehill!

Miami played the game with 3 (Dansby, Wake, Burnett) of our main defensive starters not practicing all week or dressing for the game.

Ryan went 11 of 23 for 100 yards, 7 points, 0 interceptions, and 3 sacks. All in all rookie Ryan Tannehill showed great passing ability, poise, and leadership in his very first of 200-plus Miami Dolphin starts!

He's kinda like Danny Marino in that he likes to throw the ball (i.e. audible to pass on 2nd, two to go) on the second play of his first start. Now, I'm not saying that he's any where near #13 just yet or that he ever will be, but he also makes me feel similar to how I felt back in 1983-84 when it was like everytime our offense was on the field it felt like something spectacular could happen on every play and/or series. Jim Mandich used to always say that "convincing Marino to hand the ball off was like asking a brain surgeon to perform the duties of a proctologist". It's quite likely that the fleet footed QB Ryan Tannehill will become an expert at masterfully manipulating a few things in between and including his hips and brain!

READY, AIM, FIRE !!

Ryan Tannehill led the 2nd and 3rd teamers to 7 points vs Tampa Bay, and he led the 1st and 2nd teamers to 7 points at Carolina, while much-liked Matt Moore has led both squads to one Field Goal in two games! The Dolphins lost to Carolina 23 - 17.

THANKS for an Open-Minded Read, and we look forward to your angle of view ; ) !! GOFINS : )
