Miami Dolphins Owner Stephen Ross Makes The Right Move By Ensuring Job Security

I think we can all agree that Stephen Ross doesn't always make the best decisions when it comes to the Miami Dolphins. So, it comes as a surprise to me that he has actually done something smart that could help his football team.

Here is what Ross had to say, courtesy of Armando Salguero, about job security for Tony Sparano, Jeff Ireland, and other coaching personnel for Miami:
"We talk about it all the time. If not, you go and sign old players and all big names and hope they have one year left. I think we have a very young squad, one of the youngest in the league. We're building it from the ground up and I think the whole idea when I first bought the team is we want to be consistent, playing in the playoffs year in and year out where people can expect a good, exciting product on the field"
Ross may not be the greatest owner in the world, but I am glad that he is giving Sparano and Ireland a vote of confidence. It is important for a coach to know that he has time to put together a winning team. You can't build a Super Bowl team in just one year.

I agree with what Ross is saying about not adding old players to see if they have one more year left in them. It is good that he is willing to be patient and look towards the future.

This isn't the first time that Stephen Ross has tried to make Sparano and Ireland feel like they have some more job security after the Jim Harbaugh debacle, but I actually believe him this time.

We may not have the greatest football-minded owner, but I do believe Ireland and Sparano know what they are doing. Ross' reassuring the two of their job security allows them to build a good team over time without having to worry about being fired.

Hopefully Ross really does mean what he is saying and isn't just trying to make his "product" look good so people will pay to watch it.

We will see. Thanks for reading, now let me know what you think.

How do we know when an owner is not telling us the truth ? You guessed right if you thought, when he opens his mouth. :)) Getting a indorsement from an owner is like getting the kiss of death. It means nothing. What Boss Ross wants is for his other 2 stooges not to do something stupid like selling out to save their jobs. Giving them an indorsement is like purchasing a insurance policy.

I can see all of his assurances go flying out the window, if these guys go 1 and 7 at home again, and look the way they looked at the end of last season. His words are like a shallow grave if something goes wrong the smell will overwhelm all of us, and he won't screw up a second time I'll tell you that.

Going public with that statement was for us the fans. He was telling us he is looking for a better future. I don't think it had much effect for JI/TS they already know the score.
I agree with you RD. Mafia rules in effect. Reading between the lines tells me that he is still holding their feet to the fire. Boss Ross is not enamored with older FAs but the younger players taken in FA as well as the draft, are expected to produce and that responsibility is squarely on the shoulders of Ireland and Sparano. No excuses accepted.

I don't know guys. This makes me think that he is willing to be patient as long as they are around .500
Patient???? He should've replaced both of them already... I''m affraid we missed out on Cowhert because of Ross' patience... as always, I hope I'm wrong for the sake of my Dolphins.

Who is actually calling the shots for the draft picks an FA's?? Obviously, Sparano and ireland have The Boss Ross approval for this year. There is a lot of talent left in the FA with plenty of years left. I agree not to take any stars with 1 or 2 declining years left, maybe. That's why I like solid foundation players, like Ingram or Mike Pouncey in the 1st round. Forget the maybe!! I think if we have another losing season their job security is gone. I am the optimist. I think anybody we choose has to be for future improvement. I think we can fill the big holes and come out with a much better team in this draft. Do not take any gambles!!!
I think you guys are right. Paul I also think they could save their jobs if the team is putter forth an effort in going .500. But if things go like last year, and the players give up on Tony he is gone.

One thing in his favor that I haven't thought about until now. In his interviews it seems as if he has written off the Ricky and Ronnie show, I don't think he is bringing them back. If he doesn't that is pretty much the end of all the " old guard " those were the players that were here when he took over. I think that is a great thing, mostly because all they knew was how to lose games. I wanted JT out of here for that same reason.

New guys coming in here didn't need to learn from players that don't know how to put forth the effort to win games. This team was loaded with those players, and they were the leaders of the team. Honestly I don't know how a team can win with players like that, and I believe that was the reason the Dolphins couldn't make the playoffs for so many years. The team had talented players that didn't learn how to win. Now all those leaders are gone, and I know I thought that either Ricky or Ronnie would return. I don't think we will see that any more.
Honestly, xtending the contracts of Sporano & Ireland was the correct decision in order to save the dignity of the Dolphin organization after the big fiasco Ross created by pursuing another coach. Now with that being said, I DON'T think either is a good fit for the organization!!! Sporano/Ireland lost the team/players the later part of the season & the play calling was horrendous to watch. On the flip side Nollan did a GREAT job on the D-end, that was the 1 possitive.
Ronnie, Ricky aren't they members of the 80's group "New Edition"??? All thats missing is Bobby Brown!!! All kidding aside, both still have some left in the tank but Ricky talked his way outta the club house & Ronnie well, it'll come down to $$$
Winning is an attitude, acquired through very hard work, dedication, teamwork and coaching. Out here in TX, I don't get the opportunity to watch them very often but what games I saw did not resemble a team that wanted to win, Believe me, that was tough. We hired a spitfire as Pass Rush Coach (Bryan Cox) who may ignite the long dormant fires of a winning attitude.
I see them trading back now for sure. Sparano was on NFL Network said Henne starter for now, stated watch the films and you can see his progression over each season. Better off sending a blind man in a mine field to find land mines. If
Sparano fails this year, fire him and promote Nolan to HC.
Dolphins are intelligent and talented creatures of the nature. It is said that a dolphin is significantly available in form of the intelligence oriented fish. It is tamed and trained according to the wishes of the masters. It is enhanced creature of the times and all conditions of the modern fisheries.
