Miami Dolphins Working Out Ryan Mallett Today

The Miami Dolphins are scheduled to work Ryan Mallett out today. Mallett then has a workout scheduled later this week with the Bengals, but I don't expect Cincinnati to actually draft him.

This is an important day to me, and I'm sure most of you know why. I believe Ryan Mallett is the real deal, and he is the player I want the Dolphins to draft the most.

A lot of people don't think Mallett is worth the 15th overall pick, and I don't understand why. He has the best arm of this draft class. His only real problem is his foot speed. Sure it helps to be able to move around in the pocket, but that is a pretty small problem to deal with when paired with his incredible passing ability.

Sure, there are other prospects that the Dolphins could use instead of Mallett, but I believe he is a rare talent and Miami would be foolish to pass him up. Players like Colin Kaepernick and Christian Ponder could end up being really good if the Dolphins drafted them, but I don't believe they can be nearly as good as Mallett can be.

I'm not going to say that he is the next Dan Marino because that didn't work out well last time, but he is a lot closer than Chad Henne.

I doubt we will hear what the Miami Dolphins think about Mallett until after the draft. If they do say anything it will probably just be them trying to mislead other teams.

That's all I've got for now. Thanks for reading, and let me know what you think.

Ok to start out with go to this link it gives some information on who is working out for the Dolphins. http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/03/29/2138535/mia...

As the draft gets closer I find myself wondering if there will be more QBs available at our pick than what we think. I've seen some lip smackers saying all the QBs have issues that need to worked on to function at the NFL level. I don't know if that is coming from them, or are they repeating what they hear. I can't say one way or the other.

My feelings are if a guy doesn't come from a pro set or style offense in College why bother drafting him in the early rounds. That goes along with my thinking that if any team takes a player as their 1st pick they do so with the intensions that he will be the starter by the end of the year. Mallet in my view is the only one of the big 3 that can do that. I have this feeling he doesn't fit into the dolphins mold of QB now that Parcells is gone, and if he is there at 15 they will pass on him.

I have no factors to back that up, other than the reason they brought PW here, and I don't know why they did that !!!
So I'm lost, but we'll find out soon enough.

Riverdog I agree with you. But I am hoping with 2 scheduled workouts that The Phins strongly consider taking him if
there at 15. I am not saying Mallett is the whole draft, trading down and getting a second rounder is important. But
Mallett is a stong talent and will do fine in the NFL.
I would much rather see them make a trade down and recoup the number 2 but you need a trading partner to do that.
I think that Ryan Mallett will have a reasonable NFL career. I dont think he is a significant upgrade to Chad Henne either immediately or later. I believe that the front office will continue to have faith in Chad H, will stock up via draft on other positions of need....OL, RB, Speed wide receiver, Tight End.....and bring in someone a la Carson Palmer or others to provide some experienced depth at QB. If we drafted Ryan Mallett and put him in the saddle next year, In my opinion we would be taking a big step backwards in our progress....I also dont see any other young qb's in this draft who would make next year anything other than a rebuilding year. Maybe its that anyway but I can always hope.....

If miami is not taking a good serious look at taking Ingram in the 1st round and they are tryout QB's which i dont feel will make a impact this season we should just trade down.Call up the Broncos, Chargers or Pats and trade our 1st round for two 2nd round picks or a 2nd and 3rd round picks. Just take Kaepernick and williams or lashoure and bring in a vet at qb to challenge Henne or just start the "rebuilding" record now. No matter if we take a qb first round or a back, plain and simple our O-line needs work. If we dont address the O-line then i dont see a better then 7-9 season again

Can we still have an NFL draft if the team owners & players are in Lockout??
Yes, but there can't be trades involving players. The only trades can be with draft picks.

ya but the sd thing is, the teams that do have 2 second round picks or a few picks in 2nd and 3rd rounds are smart enough to know that this years draft is going to be made in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. all the hype following the "top picks" and not paying attention to the talent that will fall into the later rounds. Wacthing film and looking at stats, my firm grip on drafting Ingram is falling apart. There are a lot of good rb's in the draft that will fall to 2nd and 3rd rounds along with the possibility of re-signing Ronnie and a few good rb's in the FA.
o-line,, o-line,, more picks ,, but the dolphin will do , is pick a player that will not play this year full time ...... we will pick, just like last year fx leg deal out of all the number one players picks we get the fx leg lol... it is the same guys picking,,,, trouble, trouble,, i see less than 7-9 for this year,, they could have the top 3 picks and it would not help these 3 guys,,
If Mallett is not available at 15, trade down and go for Dalton or Kaepernick in later rounds. Don't let Pouncey get by us. The UM G/T is also a good bet. Titus Young as a WR is good. A RB will be available some place.
15th pick NOOOO! There's no denying Mallett has the arm but he has character issues to go with it!!! And his lack of mobility is a hinderance, he's a taller version of Henne. I'm with TXDOLFAN on trading down, get additional picks & snag Kaepernick who has the size, arm, moblity/speed & right mentality...

His lack of mobility is the only thing similar between him and Henne. Mallett is extremely passionate. Sure he has character questions but he will mature. What I care about is his intensity and drive to win games, which he had at Arkansas.
Mallett reminds me of Dan. Mobility issues but made linemen and linebackers miss, ability to lead comebacks, great arm, good release.
