Report: Colin Kaepernick Scheduled For Workout With The Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have scheduled a workout with QB prospect Colin Kaepernick of Nevada according to a report by National Football Post.

I am glad to hear that the Dolphins are working Kaepernick out, because I believe they should get another quarterback to compete with Henne for the starting job. I would rather that quarterback be Ryan Mallett, but this could end up working better for Miami because they could trade down for more picks and still get Kaepernick.

Kaepernick, who stands almost as tall as Mallett at 6-6, is a very fast quarterback to go along with his passing skills. He ran for 59 touchdowns and threw for 82 in four years as a starter for Nevada. During his senior year he ran for 20 touchdowns while throwing for 21, which puts him with Tim Tebow and Cam Newton as quarterbacks that have thrown for 20 touchdowns and run for 20 in the same year.

Kaepernick could end up being really good for the Miami Dolphins, and I can see them going after him. He threw the fastest ball at the NFL Combine this year at 59 mph(one faster than Mallett's 58), but I expect Jeff Ireland to be very partial towards Kaepernick more because of his foot speed than his passing speed. Ireland wants speed, so give the man what he wants.

Another reason I think Miami will like Kaepernick a lot is the fact that he started for four years in college. Bill Parcells always wanted the quarterbacks he drafted to be experienced seniors, and Kaepernick more than fits that requirement because of how much he has played.

I know that Parcells isn't supposed to be working for the Dolphins anymore, but I can guarantee you guys that he is still helping a good bit in the draft. I wrote posts on his involvement before, and Stephen Ross is too dependent on him to not take his advice on QBs.

That is all I have for today. Let me know what you think about Kaepernick, Mallet, Parcells, or whoever else. Thanks for reading.

I see allot of talk about Parcell's still having influence with the Dolphins. I don't think so. If he does he gets paid as a consultant and not as a part of the team. If he is still a member of this staff we wouldn't be hearing him talking about the Jets. Nor would he have said a word about Henne. Parcell's is so secretive we would not have heard a thing if he was still with the team. He also wouldn't have allowed that Circus we saw at the end of last year. Parcells has such an ego he would never allow himself to look as if he was part of a losing organization or a Zoo.

This staff does believe in his blueprint when it comes to players. If we keep that in mind we need to go back and look at the type of QBs he has been involved with when he had at least some say in what he thought a QB should be. He only picked 1 QB that was not a pocket passer and that was PW. Romo was with Dallas before Parcells got there. Before that he had Sims, Bledsoe, Pennington, and Henne. All of them were pocket passers that only ran if the opening was there. I look for Miami to look for a QB just like those in this draft. That kind of leaves out the top 3 Newton, Gabbert, and Kap doesn't it ?

The whole world seems to know Miami wants to move down in the draft and get back the 2 pick. I also think they will find a QB somewhere in the draft, and it wouldn't surprise me if was Ponder of FSU or someone like him in as a later pick. None of the big 3 fit the mold that Parcells and company go for. The wild card in all this is Parcells IS GONE and The 3 Stooges could go off in another direction with out Parcells involvement in the draft. IMO Parcells has left the building...

IMO Ross has enough money to get Parcells as a top secret consultant about anything he needs. I also think we need A QB that can shuffle, so Kaepernick looks even better than mallet, in that respect. I'm still going with Ingram as 1st pick, a young QB for the next pick and speed to help in later picks. OL is also top of the heep.

Boss Ross has enough money to do as you suggest that's for sure. But a top secret in the NFL is an oxymoron, we saw that first hand with the hunt for a new head coach.

Also we only have 2 picks in the first 3 rounds, I know that you know that. I mentioned it, because if we get just one of the players you mentioned. we will be lucky. Taking Ingram at 15 would be a safe pick for sure. In my mind he fits what we need but I don't think he is the best player available !! There are going to be more talented players when we pick than Ingram, it's according to how the teams draft before us.

In FA there are a number of decent running backs out there Ronnie Brown amongst them. That makes Ingram a lesser need, or it does in my eyes. I see the need for speed, OL, and a QB on this offense . I have no idea which direction they will go I think we are all in that quandary.

I went to ESPN the weekend at WDW, and NFL insider had an interview with D. Williams of the Panthers. I think he is staying with the Panthers based on the way he was talking, and what he was saying. It's just one persons view but he's not going anywhere.

Your guess is as good as mine, and I am not a judge of NFL talent, I am basing my thoughts on what Miami has done in the past drafts, and where their thoughts may lie in building a team from the past organizations they have been with, and who their Daddy is "Parcells".
hookem, where in TX are you?
Like ive said before Kaepernick is a better fit for Miami then Mallet. They are both just as talented and i think both stand the same chances of being top NFL QBs. The best thing about Kaepernick is his ability to run and throw. His play style is like that of Vick and Tebow. He does have a slight edge that Tebow didnt have, his mechanics are much better then Tebows when he entered the draft. With the lockout going on and without Free agency i dont see the o-line getting fixed this year and if Henne fails to prove himself then Kaepernick is a very good choice. Also i think this proves without a doubt that Parcells is still whispering in the ears of the three stooges (Ross, Sparano, Ireland).

pf86 : Man you and I are miles apart on most things, I don't get it. :))

I don't see the correlation of the Dolphins taking Kaepernick and Parcells having the ear of the stooges because of that move. I just don't see it. For me if anything it shows them breaking away from the mold and the hold of Parcells. I know that Parcells sat in on an interview with that QB ( I can't remember his name ) I don't think that meant a thing other than another pay day for Bill as a consultant and that was the end of it.

Ross didn't take Parcells with him when they were searching for a new coach he took Peterson with him. None of that made any sense and surely it DID NOT have Parcells stamp of approval. He wouldn't fire Sparano, and all of us know that is what Ross wanted to do. Parcells would not have been on board with that.

I can see the logic in drafting Keapernick, but I can also see a smoke screen being laid by the phins as they bring in one QB after another, and then go in a different direction. Now that would be a Parcells move... Till the next time RD
RD i do agree with alot of what you say i think im just trying to shed light on different points of veiw, alot of things that we differ on are just speculation. Because thats mostly what were doing here is speculating. I linked Parcells and Kaepernick because he is Parcells type of QB. Hes a 4 year starter and hes big and strong and with Cam newton being the first QB they had a workout with im assuming that was Irelands idea because Newton is definately not someone Parcells would waste any time on. With all the indecision with the three stooges I think its safe to assume that Parcells is doing alot more "consulting" then were lead to believe.

In my opinion none of the QBs in the draft are worth a first round pick, and as many scouts have stated this is one of the weakest QB classes to come through the draft. The only reason why any of them will go first round is because its a teams biggest need, even the highly praised Mallet doesnt look like a promising NFL QB. If Miami keeps there #15 pick it should be used on Ingram, if not they need to trade down and try to get a 2nd rd. pick out of the deal. Which is where Kaepernick is likely to go and i strongly believe he is the best fit for Miami and if Parcells has anything to do with it he will be the phins new QB prospect come next season. But like i said before this is just opinion and speculation.
pf86 : I see your point and I understand why everyone thinks Parcells has the stooges ear. I don't think we will see the stooges stray far from the Parcells blueprint. But that pretty much is where Parcells imprint ends with these guys. We have to take into account the stooges have been brought up through the Parcells course of NFL 101. Parcells was the one that hired them, he taught them the ropes when he was here. Basically they are from the same family, and the apple doesn't fall from the tree. So It makes sense that the stooges are going to follow that same plan. I feel at this time the stooges are on auto pilot in Parcells 101, and Parcells has distanced himself from the team.

I guess we are going to have to agree to disagree, and that's OK also. Just one thing can you please agree with me that Henne is missing something from his game ? :))
I agree Henne is missing something, he looked like a lost child on the field last season. I never said Henne didnt need some work, I just think hes being given the short end of the stick with everyone thinking hes the biggest problem with Miami's offense. I think there are too many Florida fans that post on here and dont want a michigan alumni to be there leader haha :) To clear up anyone thinking im a Michigan man, Im born and raised in the state of Maine, patriots country to be exact so im neutral to all college teams i see players for who they are not what school they went to.
Kaepernick reminds me of a white Pat White, and if a black White can't make it, why would a white White be able to.

pat whites biggest problem was his size, he was talented enough but he was a toothpick with pads on. Kaepernick is a big strong QB, he has the build to play in the NFL, big differences between them.
One question remains.... do you like Ryan Mallet???

Just a little bit

---
overrated in my opinion, but thats just an opinion and i hope im wrong seems like a good kid with alot of talent i just dont see what the hype is he didnt really separate himself from the "lesser" QBs at the combine.
Draft a RB to play QB if you want a runner. Draft a QB if you want to move the chains. All being said, Dan was not fast but he made rushers miss and so will Mallett. We need beasts on the OL and more team speed. Let's all hope that comes our way 28-30 Apr. Riverdog, I'm in your corner on needs. I agree with Paul about Parcells' involvement.

Well said. I agree 100%.
draft the o-line players please ,,,,,next year get a Qb luck / with a speed speed speed wr...............
Thank you aces....I know the post is about a QB, but some improvement in basic offence, like the O line... I'd like to get someone like Ingram too since we're at it. Next year, Luck sounds good, but hopefully Sparano and Ireland will not be around,

Look you guys know what has to happen to get Luck, we will have to have the first pick in the draft and we're not that bad of a team. That isn't going to happen. Because of the lack of any early first round QBs coming out everyone is left with projects at the position. One project is as good as another as far as I'm concerned, 1st round, 3rd round, or 6th round does it really matter ?
Your right RD at this point it doesnt really matter. With the lockout going on and not knowing when or if there will be a season it doesnt really matter when they draft a QB, hes gonna be a project and hes gonna be on the bench, so early round picks for impact players such as RB and o-line and later round pick for QB and hope for the best because there will be no time for development this year.
RD. I sure hope we don't have the number one pick next year. It will still be interesting to watch Luck this season without Harbaugh pushing him. If a real winner (Mallett, not Newton) is not available at 15 then trade down and select a beast for the OL and draft the QB in round two or three. We have talent on the OL but need more. As they go so will our offense. The lockout ensures Henne as the starter next year but we need a "project" to groom for the future.
