You Tell Me: What Should The Miami Dolphins Do At Their Current Position In The Draft?

Today's "You Tell Me" is going to be a good one. I am very excited to see what you guys want the Miami Dolphins to do.

What I want to know is do you think the Miami Dolphins should trade down from the 15th overall pick in the NFL Draft to a late first or early second round pick, trade up to a top 8 pick, or stay where they are at 15?

I will let you guys give your answers, and expect me to be in on the conversation a good bit. All three options are possible and have their own benefits, so I believe that this will be an extremely good debate.

Thanks for reading, now let me know what you think.

If they decide to go for a QB in the 1st round they're going to need to move up to do it. They don't need to waste the 15 pick just to pick up a QB they can do that latter in the draft. Other than Gabbert the rest are 2nd round picks in my eyes. But the likely hood of Newton and/or Mallet being there at 15 is slim. Way to many teams need a QB and all of them are drafting in front of Miami. The Panthers, Vikings, Redskins, Titans, Bengals, Bills, Cardinals, to name a few.

We have so many weaknesses in the skill positions and the interior of the offensive line we need to get them fixed. The best way to do that IMO is to move down and recoup the 2nd rounder. My thoughts are to go with a Guard/Center type Olineman in the first. A WR or QB in the 2nd and 3rd round a speed RB some time after that.

Since all the QBs are projects in this years draft, with a few them with serious flaws. Either mental, or technical. I hope they go for a QB that has played mostly in a pro set offense. The QBs that suit that mold best are not the big 3. That's the reason I see no need to go after a QB early, and screw up there entire draft.

It's getting to the point even though the team has a lack of speed on offense they need to begin looking further down the road than just filling needs. Every year we will have some needs that need to be fixed. This year it happens to be OL, speed, and QB. I feel if they would continue to draft a QB every year until they find one that would be a good idea.

No matter how I feel about Henne they are most likely going to start the season with him at the helm. Unless they find someone in FA.
I agree with you Brother! We have to build the foundation to ensure success.

This regime has failed in some aspects in building that foundation, but I guess that happens in every NFL city. Not every draft pick is going to make the team. One thing I lose sight of is this team was not very good when these guys took over. So improving the team really wasn't that hard. Chad Henne is now the QB so how hard could it have been to improve ? He is an improvement over what was here when they took over but he is barely an average NFL QB. Moving up to .500 is better than 1 and 15 but it's along way from where they need to be, and I think we should further along than what we are.

I think there is some internal strife going on in the locker room, that is effecting the team in a negative way. I sure wish I knew what it was...
I agree with the internal strife thought. IMO, the defense was probably very vocal about the amount of time they were on the field vs. the offense and there being few results. There has to be balance there or even better, the offense is supposed to be between the lines more than the "D". What do you think?
TX I just don't know what it was. I don't know if any of you guys know someone that goes by the name of herdfan ? But she noticed something wrong with TS back in pre-season. She couldn't put her finger on it, she just knew ( I guess it's a girl thing ) she sure was right, I can say that now.

I've said this before and I don't feel any different now than before. Tony didn't have control of this team. He never did, and after 3 years of it being that way i think it was beginning to show on the field. The players knew it the entire time. It didn't bother anyone until that loss to the Steelers, that ended with a final drive that was bizaar to say the least. The players knew they were going to win that game, until the last 4 plays were called, after those plays were ran, the players knew the season was over and the team was going nowhere with that coaching staff.

I don't think we know what type of a coach Tony is if he was left to think on his own, because he was never allowed to do that. He was a puppet that was being directed by Parcells and the staff that was leading him around and not the other way around.
No arguments from me. I have referred to the Tuna as the "Puppet master" more than once who contrrols both Sparano and Ireland. Yes, he lost control of the locker room and the team and if anyone needs proof of that, look at how the team played that last few games of the season (Cleveland, Detroit, etc). I don't like to see a manager get the ax but I truly believe that needed to happen for the good of the team. We are stuck with him at least this coming season and he and Ireland are both on the spot so do they have enough courage to think out side the box they have operated in for three years? We shall see. If it appears to remain the status quo, we are in deep trouble,
I don't think they should trade up to get a quarterback. The Dolphins don't have extra picks to trade with and with the season in doubt a quarterback is not likely to help much this year. Either trade down to pick up a number two draft choice if possible or draft the best running back at fifteen, then take a qb with our third round pick. I would like to see Ponder play for the Fins if they can get him there.

I agree. Trading up will take away even more draft picks and both Newton and Gabbert don't seem like prospects worthy of trading up for.
I'm with both you on this.
onebaud (that's a bit slow isn't it) ? :))

Why a running back ? Coutdn't Brown be resigned or even Williams for that matter ? I know everyone is gaga over Ingram, and I like the guy. I think he is better suited for the NFL than College actually because he makes the first guy miss all the time, but he's not a guy that is going to go all the way if he touches the ball. I feel waiting for a later selection would be better idea. It's the speed this team is missing not the big guys.

Heck Hilliard sat the bench the entire year and carried the ball maybe 2 times last year. I didn't get that ? The same way I didn't get the way they left Henne in the games, when everyone could tell his confidence was shot.
I mentioned this earlier to TX something is wrong in the locker room, and it starts with the coaching staff.
I completely agree with you Gary. We need a burner back more.
I think slow is not doing what I said. Neither Ronnie or Ricky could dodge a tackling dummy last season. It was like they were playing flag football and if they were touched they fell down. They don't break tackles and need to be replaced. I know we can't have Larry Csonka back, but I want to see someone that can run, dodge, and bull their way to a first down. And Ricky has already burned bridges with the staff too, so it is Ronnie or our backups and I don't think Hilliard can pull the weight. I know little about the other backups we have.
We have Kory Sheets but looking at who the team is focusing on right now, makes me think he is not in their plans even though he can fly. Ingram is an Emmitt-type as many have said and he would be good but he needs a line to open holes or he will be making the first guy miss in the backfield and getting smothered by the second wave. Ubfortunately, we have too many needs and not enough picks to cover them. Worst of all, we have a new OC and others but how much latitude do they have to also think outside the box? RD, you saw my earlier comment about that and I truly hope the revamped coaching staff departs from the norm and really coaches instead of being marionettes.

Either last preseason or maybe before, I saw Hilliard do some impressive running. And like ya said, now he sits. Looking over everyone's blogs....I have decided that Miami needs about 40 draft pics to maybe have a half/ass team. Just get rid of Henne! And who knows if we are gonna have a season this year? Bet them greedy team owners will figure out something.

Forget trading up for one of the big 3 QBs!! At least trading down we can get a sure deal. Maybe we can pick up Mike Pouncey in the late 1st round. Then we could get Kaepernick, Dalton, Ponder, etc. for the 2nd round pick. Go for speed in the later picks. I am still praying for a FA QB to take Henne's starter spot and become a mentor for the rookie QB. I agree with Riverdog about keeping Ronnie Brown and picking up either Ryan or DeAngelo Wiliams. Ricky is out.

I still hate to lose out on Ingram @ 15, but we gotta weigh the benefits and alternatives available. QB is a must have!!!

Ingram would be good, but you're right. A QB is more important at the moment.
Paul, I agree with you and Hookem. I would select mallett at 15 if available but not reach. If not available, pick a beast or trade down.
I am with Mallett at 15 if available or OL in first round. One thing about comparison to Emitt Smith
Dallas had a monster line and other offensive fire power.
If they stay at 15 then draft Ingram smart low risk choice. No QB in this draft is worth a first round to pick to Miami. If they do some trading and get a second round pick as well then i still wouldnt change drafting a RB first even if Ingram is gone later then round 15. 2nd, 3rd round is where i would draft a QB, preferably Kaepernick i think he best suits the offense style Miami will be going for this season. Miami should draft immediate impact players with the lockout going on so it wouldnt really hurt my feelings to see them wait till 3rd to pick up a QB.
we need to trade down get back a second rd pick.then rb 1st rd c.ponder 2nd rd
